Be Faithful in Paying Your Tithes and Offering

“Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” (Malachi 3:8-10)

If we believe in God, it should show in our giving. The tithe is the Lord’s and He expects us to pay it to Him. He does not receive it until we give it to Him. This should be every believer first priority in seeking financial success.

Break the curse. You only curse yourself when you fail to give God what is due to him. You are cursed with a curse and God cannot bless you. Many people are cursed and their money seems to be in “a bag with holes” as in Haggai 1:6. They end up spending God’s money elsewhere that could have been avoided if they have been faithful to God in their giving.

God blesses the people who pay tithes. They do not always have the most money, finest car, mansion, or the best clothes, but they are blessed. God asked us to try Him and see if He will not give us His blessings. You tried everybody and everything else, now try God.

Save $1,000 to Start an Emergency Fund

An emergency fund is for unexpected events in life: the loss of a job, house and car repairs, etc. These things will occur and without the proper plan they can be fatal to your savings. Discipline is the key – an undisciplined mind yields an empty savings account.

You may use your income tax refund to start. Why save before paying off debt? Because if you don’t save first, you’re not going to be able to cope with unexpected expenses.

Develop a Budget

A budget is a financial document used to project future income and expenses. The budgeting process may be carried out by individuals or by companies to estimate whether the person or company can continue to operate with its projected income and expenses.

A budget is just a plan. When you budget, you’re spending on paper, on purpose, before the month begins. It is wise, especially if married, to develop a household budget (essentials i.e., rent/mortgage, utilities, leisure expenditures) in addition to a personal budget. List your important bills first. Over-fund your groceries category.

Pay Off All Debt

List all of your debt in order, beginning with the lowest balance. Utilize the free credit report system to view your credit and determine your worth and check your remove or close dates. This is a great place to start. Contact your creditors immediately if you're having trouble making ends meet. Tell them why it's difficult for you and try to work out a modified payment plan that reduces your payments to a more manageable level.

Save 3 to 6 Months of Expenses in Savings

Ask yourself, “What would it take for me to live for three to six months if I lost my income?” Your answer to that question is how much you should save. Use this money for emergencies only: incidents that would have a major impact on you and your family. These saving will provide financial security in the event of the loss of a job, leave without pay, illnesses, accidents, grievances, and disabilities.

Life Insurance – You should plan for death just as you plan to live with the goal of providing security for your loved ones as they grieve your absence from their lives. It is smart to acquire a policy worth five to ten times your yearly income with a term life policy. Try to avoid savings (money returned) and life insurance policies; their objective is to feed the company, not you and your family. Save your own money in your account.

Homeowner’s and Renter’s Insurance – As an added protection, acquire renter’s insurance to protect against unforeseen and uncontrollable disasters (fire, flood, burglary, natural disaster). Renter’s insurance is relatively inexpensive and worth the security it provides. When buying homeowner’s insurance, get one that has guaranteed replacement costs.

Long-term disability insurance, long-term care insurance, IRA’s Investments, pre-tax retirement, college funding with education savings accounts (ESAs), and 529 plans are other services available.

Enjoy the blessings of the Lord and the work of your labor. Financial stability is peace within itself.
